Far be it from us to make sweeping generalisations or assumptions about our audiences, but we suspect our guests tonight may be predominantly female, and quite possibly in a group.
There’s always a question of how well a successful TV show will translate to the big screen and whether it can replicate the small screen success. But it’s hard to argue with a worldwide gross in excess of $400m and an army of fans around the world.
We have no doubt that those fans have seen this film more than once and we’re pretty damn sure they’ll own the DVD and could watch this film at home at anytime. But that’s not what’s it’s about, is it? And that’s not what we’re about or what cinema itself is about … it’s all about the social experience of getting together with friends, watching a film together and building a whole night out around it. And whatever you may think of this film or however many times you’ve seen it, part of the reason for Sex And The City’s success is that it’s a great example of a film that can do just that, with the film becoming the focal point of a full-on girl’s night out that also includes the obligatory cocktails, dressing up and maybe going out for a meal to pull the whole thing together.
And that’s what The Screening Room experience is really all about. So, ladies … we hope you have a blast tonight. To hell with Monday mornings.
